Geofenced out: Why my Caira AI camera order is still missing in action?

If you follow this blog, you know I love camera gears. Over a year ago, I registered as Caira AI camera backer with '#146 and I put my money down on crowdfunding by Camera Intelligence in 2025. On paper, it promised to revolutionize our workflows - modular phone integration, sleek minimalist hardware, and advanced Nano Banana AI processing built right into the ecosystem.
Fast forward to today (end of May, 2026), and my gear shelf has an empty space on it, surely reserved for Caira AI camera.
Here is what is going on, why Canadian backers are currently left out in the cold, and why I’m feeling deeply frustrated with how this rollout is being handled.
The Promise vs. The Reality
According to the original Kickstarter fulfillment timeline, shipments were officially slated to begin in mid-January 2026, with a strict completion target aiming to get all initial backers their units by the end of February 2026.
Well, February has come and gone. My tracking portal remains completely blank.
As it turns out, if you are a backer based here in Canada (like me, looking out at the rain in BC), we've run into a massive, unannounced roadblock: Regional Geofencing.
The "Canadian Delay"
While Canada was proudly listed as an eligible shipping destination during the initial campaign, Camera Intelligence CEO Vishal Kumar later clarified in press briefings that the initial release batch would be strictly geofenced to the UK, EU, and USA.
The excuse? They wanted to "ensure smooth initial logistics" and iron out early firmware bugs with the AI processing before expanding. The rest of the world - specifically Canada -will apparently be addressed "in due course."
The Reality Check: Being told your market is secondary after your money has already been spent to fund the product's development is a tough pill to swallow. We aren’t testing beta software here; we backed a physical production run a while ago.
We Became "Bakers" While Waiting
Lately, it feels less like waiting for a cutting-edge piece of photography gear and more like waiting for dough to rise. We've been left holding empty camera straps while our peers in the US and Europe are already putting the hardware through its paces.
Ironing out bugs is important, but moving the goalposts based on geography after a campaign finishes sets a frustrating precedent for international backers.
What's Next?
If you are an international backer in the same boat, I highly recommend camp-watching the "Updates" tab on the Caira Kickstarter page and checking your backer portal daily.
I really want to try the Caira in action when it finally hits my desk - but right now, the silence on the international rollout is leaving a pretty sour taste.
